CM inaugurates Ambubachi Mela


Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday evening inaugurated the Ambubachi Mela 2019 at Sonaram High School Field in Guwahati. Speaking on the occasion the CM said that blessings of Maa Kamakhya enable devotees from around the country and the world to contribute meaningfully to sustain an environment of peace and harmony in the world.

The CM also released an information booklet highlighting necessary information of the event. He further urged the people of Guwahati to play the role of hosts like the previous years to make this year’s Ambubachi Mela a grand success.

Ambubachi is one of the largest congregations that Northeastern India hosts atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati. Lakhs of visitors from across the globe visit the Kamakhya temple to offer their prayers during this time.

Meanwhile, Bollywood singer Kailash Kher reached Guwahati Friday evening to mesmerise the devotees on the opening ceremony of Ambubachi Mela.

The door of the Kamakhya will remain closed from June 22 to mark the annual menstruation of goddess Kamakhya. The door will open on June 26.
