Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a Multi Disciplinary Sports Complex at Khanikar, Dibrugarh.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarbananda Sonowal said that the complex at Khanikar, with hostel facilities for boys and girls will immensely help budding sports talents of the region.
Quoting one of the lines from a famous Bhupen Hazarika song, এই পৃথিৱী এক ক্ৰীড়াংগন, ক্ৰীড়া হ'ল শান্তিৰ প্ৰাঙ্গণ', the CM said that sports promote peace and brotherhood in the society. Our youths should make sports a way of life and help build a peaceful and prosperous Assam
He also added that the BJP Government is making all efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure across Assam.
On the occasion, CM felicitated several senior sports personalities of Dibrugarh district.
CM Sonowal also inaugurated the Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall under USIS scheme of Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports in Dibrugarh.
"The complex is a step towards modernizing sports infrastructure in the region and was initiated by the CM during his term as Union Sports Minister", the CM added.
