Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today visited the family of ace sprinter Hima Das in Nagoan district and interacted with her parents. She recently created history by winning gold at IAAF World Under-20 Championships at Tampere in Finland.
CM Sonowal visited Hima Das’ home at No 3 Kandulimari village in Dhing area of Nagaon district and interacted with her parents Ranjit and Junali Das as well as other members of her family.
The CM felicitated them with the traditional ‘Gamosa’, ‘Sarai’ (brass metal offering tray with a stand) and a citation.
He congratulated her parents on the success of their daughter in world sports and lavishly praised her stunning success saying that her achievement has raised the stature of the people of the state globally.
During the interaction Ranjit Das requested the chief minister for steps to improve the condition of the playground, library and Naamghar (prayer hall) of their village.
She would be appointed as the sports ambassador of Assam and a reward of Rs 50 lakh would be given to her as per the earlier announcement, Sonowal told Hima’s parents.
