Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma confirms that six of the family members of the deceased doctor and Bethany Hospital owner Dr. John L. Sailo Ryntathiang have been tested positive while six others have been 'rested'.
So far till the filing of this report, 68 test results have come, 62 are so far negative. More results are on the way and Shillong is on the toes as thousands of patients and attendants have been exposed to the doctor and the family members, who are also doctors in the popular Bethany hospital located at the heart of the Shillong city.
The 175 bedded hospital has been sealed. The patients are transferred to different hospital and all are under quarantined for next 14 days. Every doctors and nurses, as well as all Paramedical staff, have been quarantined as the deceased doctor was active till last Sunday.
What has triggered alarm bell that Dr. John L. Sailo Ryntathiang has been active since Monday last as he had no symptoms and had no travel history and till April 13 Meghalaya is the only state of the country having no positive cases? Already six of his family members have turned positive and many more are feared.
Dr. John L. Sailo Ryntathiang, the 69-year-old breathed his last around 3:00 AM. He was tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. The doctor was initially baffled how he could contract the disease as he had no travel history. Now it is suspected that his son in law, an Air India pilot may be the carrier as he flew to New yours just before lockdown. The son in law is still asymptomatic.
