Cotton University students stage protest

The students of Cotton University on Thursday organised a 48-hour sit-in protest against the Assam government seeking actions to the various demands of the university students.

Their demands included the appointment of an adequate number of professors, increase the number of girls' hostels and provincialisation of the departments like BCA, Mass Communication and Bio-Technology.

"There are only three girls' hostels in the university, where over 3000 girl students are studying and there are more than 120 posts for teachers are lying vacant which needs to be filled immediately," said a protesting student.

"The only thing that changed after the college merged with the university is the signboards in front of the campus," said another student adding, "The government has not done anything to fulfill their promises."

They also threatened to boycott LS polls.
