Council of Ministers meet to discuss Assam situation

The council of ministers of Assam today met in the Chief Minister's Secretariat to discuss the latest situation arising out of complete polarization and hatred between Assamese and Bengali communities following Citizenship Amendment Bill.

Assam Government is unlikely to budge on the Bill even as majority Assamese community and minority Bengali community have been polarized badly.

Situation have been further aggravated by provocative statements by fringe players like Shiladitya of BJP and Mrinal Hazarika and Jiten Dutta of former ULFA.

The suicide of two Bengali persons for not having names in the NRC have further created a situation.

Assam Government is at loss how to handle the situation following provocative statement from both sides. They want to save the bill by creating a by-pass but unable to find a common way.

A section of the BJP is however determined that the BJP should go ahead and the Panchyat Election result shall take care of the stiff opposition to the Bill. The BJP hopes to win the poll and silence the opposition on this.

But Chief Minister Sonowal himself is shaky as he has been the target of every one for not being able to keep the promise. He had promised not to harm the interest of the society but the BJP pushed for the bill in the recently concluded executive at Majuli, which angered whole Assam.
