COVID-19 Assam: No Institutional Quarantine for Air Passengers

COVID-19 Assam: No Institutional Quarantine for Air Passengers

The government of Assam has changed the SOP for the air passengers coming from outside the state. Institutional quarantine has been done away with.

Unlike earlier, when the in-bound passengers had to go for compulsory institutional or hotel quarantine upon landing, they now can choose 14-day home quarantine should they test negative in the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).

However, if such patients, despite testing negative, prefer hotel quarantining for certain reasons, the District Administration will facilitate them in doing so, but they will have to bear their own expenses.

This has been informed by the Principal Secretary of Assam's Health and Family Welfare Department Samir Sinha in a notification issued on Saturday.

Also, in case of negative reports, the swab samples of such people will be sent for RT-PCR COVID-19 test for confirmation.

The notification further informs that upon detection of such air passengers to be positive for the virus through RAT , they have to proceed to COVID Hospital or COVID Care Centre.

In case of airborne passengers arriving at late hours, the District Administration will quarantine them in hotel for the initial 36 hours at its own expense. However, after that duration, such a passenger will have to choose between home and hotel quarantine.
