COVID-19 Cases in NE Rise to 6917, Assam Tops Tally

TheNortheastern states have seen an alarming increase of COVID-19 cases and Assamtops the tally with 4694 positive cases. The number of cases in the Northeasthas risen to 6917. After Assam, Tripura listed in 2nd position with1135 confirmed cases.

Although most of these persons tested positive after coming back from the rest of the country, detection of at least 25 positive cases in Guwahati, in persons having no travel history, left Assam government worried about possible community infection.

The Assamgovernment has also started Targeted Surveillance drive which will include50,000 rapid tests in Guwahati in 12 centers. The government has taken the stepof conducting random tests as the state health department suspected that mostof the cases have been reported as most of the truck drivers from outside thestates comes in contact with the people while loading and unloading thecommodities.

Assam nowhas 4694 cases with 2041 active cases while 2642 patients have been dischargedfrom hospital after being recovered.

Other than Assam, the other states which have a maximum number of cases is Tripura with 1135 followed by Manipur with 552 cases, Nagaland 193 cases, Mizoram registered 130 cases, Arunachal Pradesh with 99 cases, Sikkim 70 and Meghalaya registered 44 cases of COVID-19 as per the data of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
