COVID-19: Meghalaya Govt Asks Armed Forces To Stay Back

The Meghalaya government has asked the army forces personnel who were supposed to return to the state after the end of their leave to stay back.

This was reportedly informed by CM Conrad Sangma in a recent meeting held between the government and the opposition.

The said decision was reportedly taken after due consultation with the armed forces.

This comes in the backdrop of a sudden spurt in the number of cases in the state. Meghalaya, whose situation was pretty much under control till June, has suddenly found itself in a precarious position with respect to COVID-19.

As on July 15, out of 297 active cases, 222 belonged to the BSF and armed forces.

The sudden spike can also be attributed to the Greenwood Resort wedding party.
