Cyclone Fani: 23 Guwahati airport flights cancelled


As Cyclone Fani heading towards West Bengal, Assam and other northeastern States, around 23 flights to and from Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport have been cancelled.

According to sources, 9 flights, which were scheduled to arrive at Guwahati on Friday have been cancelled, while 14 flights scheduled to depart from Guwahati have also been cancelled.

The Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that it is the first cyclonic storm of such severity in April in India’s oceanic neighbourhood in 43 years. Reportedly, the name ”Fani”, which is pronounced as “Foni”, had been suggested by Bangladesh which roughly translates to the hood of a snake.
