NASA releases images of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack looming in darkness

Cycone Fani had left a devastating trail over Odisha putting it into darkness. Hundreds and thousands are still without power supply and NASA on Thursday released several images comparing the lighting in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack before and after the storm.

In an article on the NASA Earth website, the agency said, "The images on this page are data visualizations of where the lights went out across some of the worst affected areas in Odisha. The images show city lighting on April 30 (before the storm) and on May 5, 2019, two days after Fani made landfall. The storm destroyed several transmission towers and uprooted as many as 156,000 utility poles that must re-installed."

The agency also shared the same on Twitter.

The Home Ministry in a statement on Wednesday informing that the power situation in eight of the nine cyclone-hit districts of Odisha has improved, said, "The state government has informed the Centre that situation in eight out of nine districts has improved and power and telecom services are gradually picking up in the worst-affected areas of Puri and Bhubaneswar."
