The Districtand Sessions Judge's Court on Thursday awarded death sentence to the primeaccused of the rape and murder of an Assam Agricultural University (AAU) studentthat had jolted the State last year. The prime accused, Bikash Das, was convictedwith death sentence under section 302 of the IPC.
Meanwhile,the culprit has been remanded to Sivasagar district jail. The court has alsoprovided a time frame of 30 days to the convict to make an appeal in front ofthe High Court.
It maybe mentioned here that the AAU student was raped and brutally killed inside theTinsukia-Rangia passenger train and her body was recovered from the toilet ofthe train at Simaluguri Railway Station.
