Although the flood situation in Assam has come under control still most of the areas are still submerged underwater and the death toll has risen to 60.
As per the data of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the water levels in some of the districts have been receding and as on July 20, a total of 3,024 villages in 77 revenue circles of 24 districts have been submerged under water affecting at least 44,08,142 people. The affected districts are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Cachar and Karimganj.
Moreover,a total of 12 more persons have died due to flood in the last 24 hours inNalbari, Barpeta, Dhubri, Morigaon and South Salmara.
Meanwhile, Governor ofAssam, Jagdish Mukhi along with Chief Secretary to the Govt. of Assam visitedDhubri on Saturday and made an aerial survey of Kamrup, Goalpara, SouthSalmara, and Dhubri districts along with the officials namely Commissioner,Lower Assam Division and Additional Secretary, Revenue and DM Department. Hemet the camp inmates of 3 Relief Camps in Gouripur and Dhubri and instructedDistrict officials to render all possible help to the flood-affected people.
Presently, 689 ReliefCamps are operational in the districts of Dhemaji, Biswanath, Sonitpur,Darrang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara,Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon, KarbiAnglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia,Cachar and Karimganj districts with 1,31,586 inmates and 240 ReliefDistribution Centres in the districts of Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Darrang,Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaonand Golaghat.
