Dibrugarh Town severely hit by urban floods

The town of Dibrugarh has been reeling under flash floods for the past couple of days. Several prominent areas of the town including Thanacharali, Phool Bagan, Tinkunia and New Market have been battered by the floods triggered by the incessant downpour.

The floods have disrupted the commercial operations, with many shopkeepers being forced to keep their stores closed, as waters gushed into them. Unable to move, some people are using small boats to move from one place to another. Parts of NH-37 are also under waters. The front yard of the District and Sessions Court is inundated.

A local, Prayag Kashyap Baruah, while talking to Praditin Time, confirmed, "We are having a very tough time. With the threat of COVID-19 already dangling over our heads, these flash floods are only increasing our woes. In many parts of the town, life has invariably come to a halt"

The overflowing water of the Dibrugarh Town Protection Drain is crossing over to the nearby areas like Cole Road and the New Market area.
