A day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) control Facebook and WhatsApp in India followed by BJP accusing Facebook of removing 700 pages aligned to a nationalist narrative before 2019 general elections, the social media group responded stating it does not allow any content inciting violence.

Facebook's spokesperson on Monday said to ANI, "We prohibit hate speech and content that incites violence and we enforce these policies globally without regard to anyone's political position or party affiliation. While we know there is more to do, we're making progress on enforcement and conduct regular audits of our process to ensure fairness and accuracy".

Furthermore, in the article titled "Facebook Hate-Speech Rules Collide With Indian Politics — Company executive opposed move to ban controversial politician", the Wall Street Journal reported that Facebook looks the other way in cases of hate speech and objectionable content from BJP leaders and workers.

Gandhi yesterday said, "They spread fake news and hatred through it and use it to influence the electorate. Finally, the American media has come out with the truth about Facebook". His tweet also contained snippets of media reports.

Reiterating, Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad slammed Gandhi and said, "Losers who cannot influence people even in their own party keep cribbing that the entire world is controlled by BJP & RSS. You were caught red-handed in alliance with Cambridge Analytica & Facebook to weaponise data before the elections & now have the gall to question us?"
