Fire Breaks Out at Hospital in Mumbai

At least Six persons, including a two-month-old baby, were killed  in a major fire that broke out this evening at the ESIC Kamgar Hospital in Mumbai's Andheri (East).

More than 100 others, including one fire brigade official, have suffered injuries and have been shifted to nearby hospitals.

The condition of at least eight of them is reported to be critical.

The fire started at around 4 PM on the fourth floor of the hospital located in Mumbai's western suburb of Andheri. Preliminary reports suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit.

Ten fire engines had rushed to the spot to douse the flames while about 16 ambulances were used to evacuate patients.
