Flood creates havoc in Manipur

Incessant rain in Manipur has caused flash flood which has adversely affected the normal life in the state. Major rivers which pass through the valley districts are flowing at danger level and at some locations river banks have been breached.

Low lying areas of the valley districts including government offices and educational institutions have been partially submerged in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal Districts.

Officials said that the national highway connecting Manipur with southern Assam had been cut off because of landslides. Power supply had also been disrupted.

Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh through twitter said, "Flooded in many parts of the valley areas of Manipur due to continuous heavy rains and badly destroyed the National Highways imphal Jiribam roads."

Educational institutions had been closed in the valley on Wednesday.
