Former Karimganj DC Sent To 2 days Police Remand

Former Karimganj Deputy Commissioner Pradip Kumar Talukdar has beensent to two days police remand. The DC was arrested on Sunday in charge of LandPort scam.

Talukdar was arrested from Guwahati on Sunday by Karimganj police andhas been sent to police remand for two days. He was presented before the ChiefJudicial Magistrate on Monday by Karimganj police and asked for five daysremand but the court has given two days remand to the former DC of Karimganj.

It may be mentioned that the Central Government had sanctioned severalcrores of rupees for the construction of International Airport onIndia-Bangladesh border and a land amounted to Rs. 6crore 60lakhs has beenbought to construct the airport but some workers of revenue circle office hasexchanged the name of the land owners without having bought the land from theactual owner.

It has been said that one's land has been named in another's name andcrores of rupees has been embraced by exchanging the name of the actual landowner. The money has been withdrawn through different cheques as they made manyfake bank accounts and many government officials along with the then revenuecircle officer Homen Gohain was also involved in the incident.

An amount of Rs. 6crore 60lakh has been embraced in the name of buyingland port for construction of International Airport.

Another ACS officer and DDC of Cachar district who was involved in thescam is now absconding and the mastermind Abdul Aahad Chowdhury is alsoabsconding.
