Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Jaipal Reddy had breathed his last at a hospital in Hyderabad in the early hours of Sunday. Reddy died at the age of 77.
The former minister was diagnosed with pneumonia and was admitted to the hospital.
Reddy has been a parliamentarian since 1984 and he had served as a Lok Sabha MP for five times during his political career and was also elected to the Rajya Sabha two times.
President Ram Nath Kovind condoled his death and tweeted, “Sorry to hear of the passing of Shri S. Jaipal Reddy, former union minister. He was a thinking person’s politician and an outstanding parliamentarian. My condolences to his family and many associates.”
The Congress, in a tweet, said it was saddened to hear the passing of Reddy.
Reddy was the information and broadcasting minister during the tenure of IK Gujral government.
Reddy’s funeral will take place in Hyderabad on Monday.
