The Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation has come up with a new initiative to feed the poor in exchange of plastic waste.
Yes, the first garbage café has been launched at Chhattisgarh under which the poor and the homeless will be provided with food just in lieu of plastic waste. It has been set by the municipal corporation that if one would be able to fetch 1 kg of plastic waste, they will be offered a full meal while those collecting 500 gms waste will get a substantial breakfast.
The second cleanest city Ambikapur after Indore plans to use the plastic for construction of roads. Mayor Ajay Tirkey said that the café will operate from the city’s main bus stoppage. He also said that the budget provides Rs. 5lakh for the Garbage Café Scheme and there is a plan to provide free shelter to the homeless who collect plastic waste. Ambikapur already has a road made with plastic granules and asphalt.
The state already has such road made of plastic bags by mixing 8lakh plastic bags. The roads are constructed with plastic bags as the mixing of plastic and asphalt is durable because the water does permeate through it.
The Municipal Corporation has come up with the campaign in order to make the city free from plastics and also the poor and the homeless will get an opportunity to get free foods. There will also be arrangements for shelter with food for such people.
The Mayor said that the scheme is being linked to the cleanliness campaign and Ambikapur is the second-largest city in the country in the Sanitation Campaign. He also said that the corporation has already restricted the use of plastic carry bags.
Such a great initiative by the Chhattisgarh municipality to make it a plastic-free state which leads to a healthy environment and at the same time the hungry people will also get an opportunity to feed their stomach.
