Free Food for Poor in Lieu of 1kg Plastic

The ChhattisgarhMunicipal Corporation has come up with a new initiative to feed the poor inexchange of plastic waste.

Yes, thefirst garbage café has been launched at Chhattisgarh under which the poor andthe homeless will be provided with food just in lieu of plastic waste. It hasbeen set by the municipal corporation that if one would be able to fetch 1 kgof plastic waste, they will be offered a full meal while those collecting 500gms waste will get a substantial breakfast.

The secondcleanest city Ambikapur after Indore plans to use the plastic for constructionof roads. Mayor Ajay Tirkey said that the café will operate from the city'smain bus stoppage. He also said that the budget provides Rs. 5lakh for theGarbage Café Scheme and there is a plan to provide free shelter to the homelesswho collect plastic waste. Ambikapur already has a road made with plasticgranules and asphalt.

The statealready has such road made of plastic bags by mixing 8lakh plastic bags. The roadsare constructed with plastic bags as the mixing of plastic and asphalt isdurable because the water does permeate through it.

The MunicipalCorporation has come up with the campaign in order to make the city free fromplastics and also the poor and the homeless will get an opportunity to get freefoods. There will also be arrangements for shelter with food for such people.

The Mayor said that the scheme is being linked to the cleanliness campaign and Ambikapur is the second-largest city in the country in the Sanitation Campaign. He also said that the corporation has already restricted the use of plastic carry bags.

Such a great initiative by the Chhattisgarh municipality to make it a plastic-free state which leads to a healthy environment and at the same time the hungry people will also get an opportunity to feed their stomach.
