Girls from Assam tea estates receive scholarships to study in Asian University for Women, Bangladesh

After bringing laurels to their families and localities following their amazing performances in the Higher Secondary exams of 2018, two girls from Assam's tea estates have been selected to pursue higher education at the prestigious Asian University for Women in Bangladesh's Chittagong.

Sonali Kerkata and Bandana Patar have secured scholarships to study in the prestigious university following motivating efforts from Indian Tea Association and Assam Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha.

Both the girls, from Dikom Tea Estate in Dibrugarh, have received scholarships worth USD 75,000 for five years to pursue their higher education.

The elated girls said,"We would firstly like to thank the almighty along with our parents and well wishers. We would also like to thank our managers and tea estate management for helping us through out. It's like a dream for us as we never expected to go abroad and study in such a reputed institute."

Apart from these two, Pallavi Das Panikai from Hokonguri tea estate in Tinsukia district has also received a five year scholarship to study in the prestigious women only institute.
