Seemingly, East Guwahati police has only become alert after the grenade blast, which jolted Guwahati’s Zoo Road, injuring 12 persons on Wednesday.

Pertaining to the security of the East Guwahati Police district, the Commissioner had called for an urgent meeting with the Bazaar Committee, Mall authorities, Cinema Hall authorities, Mandir-Masjid Committee today.

Along with the Commissioner of Police, DCP Ramandeep Kaur, DCP Prasanta Saikia and Foreigner Regional Registration Offices (FRRO) Superintendent KK Gupta was also present at the meeting.

It may be noted that from the point of security, East Guwahati Police district is the most sensitive because large number of shopping malls, renowned hotels are all under this police district’s jurisdiction.

This meeting has precisely brought forth the helplessness of the police. The police has urged hotel authorities to deploy security forces outside their boundaries and the mandir-masjid committee to install adequate number of CCTVs.
