Guwahati: One Arrested In Elderly-Couple Murder Case

Guwahati: In a latest development, one of the four persons who have been detained in connection to the ghastly murder of an elderly couple on Tuesday morning at their Beltola residence has been arrested by Guwahati police.

The detainee Akash Choudhury, the caretaker of the elderly couple, has been arrested. Earlier today, Choudhury and his wife were detained in suspect of the murders of Noni Gopal Baruah (87) and Mina Baruah (76). Besides, two other suspects Satyendra Singh and Paresh Choudhury have been detained for interrogation. Singh was present at the victims' residence on Monday night.

A joint investigation led by Guwahati Police, Crime Branch, and Assam CID, is underway and Assam Special Director General of Police (Law and Order), G.P. Singh, stated that based on the initial investigation, he is positive, the case will be solved at the earliest.

As per reports, a sharp weapon was used attack the the elderly couple. They were found lying dead on their bed by the caretakers in the morning. According to the caretakers, the grills of the window were broken and they suspected the murder occurred during an incident of robbery.

Meanwhile, the couple's daughters haved arrived in Guwahati.
