Guwahati or Gauhati?

A PIL has been filed at the Gauhati High Court seeking to clear the perplexity regarding the spelling of the name that has been part of our daily usage – Gauhati or Guwahati.

Advocate Arup Borbora has filed the PIL pointing out the confusion in the spelling of 'Guwahati'. It has come to light that Gauhati University, Gauhati High Court and also the signboard  of Gauhati Municipal Corporation among a few others use a rather old version of the spelling – 'Gauhati'.

Gauhati HC has sent a notice to the Assam Government to file an affidavit as early as possible.
