The Election commission flying squad has so far made seizures of Rs. 1,05,36,900/- across Guwahati city since Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect with the announcement of the poll dates on March 10.
On the other hand, total liquor seized in terms of amount Rs. 5,95,090/- so far in the city.
It is significant that nearly 75% of seizures have taken place just in the past two weeks and include operations based on independent intelligence against moneylenders and interceptions at airports by the Directorate's Air Intelligence Units across the seven sister states of North East.
A Special Task Force is being constituted to investigate hundreds of suspicious bank transactions involving high value cash deposits and withdrawals.
