In a bid to promote e-Commerce in the Northeastern region, the Centre has decided to set up two foreign post offices in the region, one in Guwahati and the other in Shillong.
According to officials, the post offices are expected to boost international trade in the region which has been witnessing a slow pace of trade growth due to lack of awareness about different facilities and government schemes.
The post office will be set up at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Borjhar, as informed by the official. He also said that the opening of the foreign post offices in the region will promote e-Commerce in the North East in a significant way. The post offices will have facilities for examination, assessment, clearance etc.
According to reports, the volume of export from the Northeast has decreased from Rs. 1,706.09crore in 2015-16 to Rs. 1,649.90crore in 2018-19.
