Guwahati is likely to host one of India’s qualifying match for the FIFA World Cup 2022. The Assam Football Association (AFA) reportedly expressed its interest in hosting the first qualifying match against Oman on September 5.
“We have got in touch with the All India Football Federation requesting them to give us one of the World Cup qualifying matches and they considered it. There is a chance we might get the September 5 game,” AFA general secretary Hemen Brahma was quoted as saying by PTI.
According to sources in AIFF, “nothing has been finalised yet.” Before taking a decision regarding hosting a match in Guwahati, the Asian Football Confederations (AFC) officials will examine the venue. The Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai could get to host the game.
