Trump Administration has been in the eye of a storm even since it has announced that foreign students of courses going online due to the COVID-19 outbreak will have to leave the USA. In a major development, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) reportedly sued the Trump administration on Wednesday over the announcement.

The Universities, as per media reports, have requested for a temporary restraining order to halt the July 6 announcement by filing a lawsuit at the US District Court.

Reacting to the said announcement that was made by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), President of Harvard University, Lawrence Bacow reportedly wrote in an email, "We believe that the ICE order is bad public policy, and we believe that it is illegal… We will pursue this case vigorously so that our international students – and international students at institutions across the country – can continue their studies without the threat of deportation."

Earlier on July 6, the ICE reportedly said, "Nonimmigrant F-1 and M-1 students attending schools operating entirely online may not take a full online course load and remain in the United States."

The statement issued by the ICE further read, "Active students currently in the United States enrolled in such programs must depart the country or take other measures, such as transferring to a school with in-person instruction to remain in lawful status."

The move is expected to impact thousands of Indian students, as after China, India accounts for most number of foreign students in the USA.
