HD Sarma Can’t be NRC Coordinator: Khaleque

The NationalRegister of Citizens' (NRC) Chief Coordinator designate Hitesh Dev Sarma'sfuture is uncertain as Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reportedly asked himto lie low following the controversy erupted over his series of social mediaoutburst against the former NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela.

As the content of the social media of Hitesh Dev Sarma has gone viral across all political spectrums and bureaucracy, questions were raised about his impartiality in social media platforms.

Addressing apress conference here today, Congress MP Abdul Khaleque released an open letterto the chief minister asking him to appoint an impartial person to replacePrateek Hajela.

The open letter suggested that HD Sarma could not be accepted as a neutral and reliable coordinator as his public profile in social media gives a completely biased picture.

Mr. Khaleque also released a social media screenshot and requested to reconsider the appointment of the NRC coordinator Sarma by replacing a reliable officer.

This is noteworthy that Sarma was a member of the core team of NRC during 2013-16 when he was transferred and since then he was constantly canning Hajela and AASU blaming them for NRC loopholes.

Meanwhile, many stakeholders have in the meantime prepared itself to raise the matter inthe upcoming hearing of NRC on November 26 where the new CJI SA Bobde replacingCJI Ranjan Gogoi after his retirement will hear the case.
