Heavy Rainfall: Orange Alert Issued in Karnataka & Kerala
Karnataka once again being hit by heavy rain and floods. An orange alert has been issued for Kodagu district.
The rivers in all these regions, including Krishna River are in spate with water entering houses and flooding fields. Roads have been severely damaged affecting connectivity.
Earlier, in monsoon too, the state had seen devastation by floods that left 80 people dead and there has barely been time to recover from that.
In the flood, last time, districts including Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, and Bagalkote have been badly hit and this time also these districts are the worst hit.
On the other hand, heavy rains lashed several parts of Kerala on Monday and disrupted the Ernakulam by-election, even as the Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for 12 district and warned of more downpour.
The rains affected the movement of trains and vehicles through low-lying areas and the state government put NDRF teams on alert in Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Pathanamthitta to deal with the heavy rains.
So far as the elections were concerned, the worst-affected were Ernakulam and Konni constituencies, which recorded 4.9 percent and 11.5 percent voting till 9 am respectively. Among the other three constituencies, Vatiyoorkavu witnessed 11.5 percent, Aroor 12.8 percent, and Manjeswaram 16.5 percent polling till 9 am.
