Heavy Rainfall Predicted In Assam, Meghalaya

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the next 24 hours in Assam and Meghalaya.

The IMD on Sunday said that isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh also may receive heavy downpour during the day.

A skymetweather report said that intermittent spells of moderate to heavy rain and thundershower at many places with very heavy showers along with moderate lightning strike will be seen over Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Charaideo, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Karbi Anglong (East), Karbi Anglong (West), Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, N.C.Hills, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara-Mankachar, Tinsukia and Udalguri districts in Assam.

Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur in Meghalaya's East Garo Hills, East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, North Garo Hills, Ri-Bhoi, South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills, West Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills during next 24-36 hours.

It may be mentioned here that following heavy rainfall occurred in the state during the last few days, the flood situation in Assam has turned critical.

Around 14, 17,411 people from 25 districts of the state have been affected by the current wave of flood.
