In what seems like negligence of the former Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in recruiting teachers during his tenure, many instances of teachers of the Hindi-Bangla medium teaching students of Assamese medium and teachers of Assamese medium teaching students of Garo-Bangla medium have come into light.
Thousands of young students’ lives have been pushed into darkness with such negligence. The tangled situation of the education department is allegedly because the recruitment processes not taken seriously by the concerned department. The language barrier has created a huge communication gap between the teachers and students.
It may be noted here that such confusion has been prevailing since two years in some of the schools.
Significantly, newly appointed education minister Siddharth Bhattacharya is also seen playing a blind role towards this issue.
On June 29, 2016, 7240 teachers had been recruited in LP schools as per the guidelines used by the former Congress government. Reportedly, the then education minister recruited teachers through lottery.
As a result of the lottery, Hindi speaking teachers have been teaching in Assamese medium school with the teachers themselves being uncomfortable in the language they have been teaching in.
It may be noted that many a times teachers have conveyed about this confusion to the education department. Mostly Assamese teachers appointed in Bangla medium schools in Hailakandi, Cachar and Dhubri districts have been facing such issues.
Acknowledging the issue, Himanta Biswa Sarma had promised to put everything in order by allowing to exchange depending on the medium of the schools but nothing has been done till now. Hence, many government schools are still going through that issue on a daily basis.
In some of the districts, there have been various protests and agitations as well regarding this issue but could not make any difference in the prevailing situation.
