Powerful blast rocks Manipur capital town

Unidentifiedmiscreants today morning triggered a powerful bomb suspected to be anImprovised Explosive Device (IED) at Nagamapal-RIMS road crossing in the statecapital town of Imphal, through a "remote control", police said.

Theexplosion at around 4.55 am damaged several shops and shattered the glassesinjuring a 10-year-old girl, officials said.

Following the blast, top-ranking police officers rushed to the spot to examine the aftermath of the blast which came just a few days ahead of the 71st Republic Day celebrations and heightened security measures in the capital town as well as other parts of the State.

No outfit has claimed responsibility for today's morning blast at the time of filing this report although it occurred just a few days after banned militant outfit Co-ordination Committee, a conglomeration of multiple banned Manipur-based millitant groups and the Assam-based ULFA jointly called for a boycott of this year's edition of R-Day celebration.
