India Successfully Flight Tests Hypersonic Missile

India on Monday successfully flight tested the Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) from APJ Abdul Kalam testing range in Balasore, Odisha. The indigenous technology is expected to power futuristic long-range missile systems and aerial platforms.

India has now become the fourth country after the US, Russia and China to develop and successfully pass its test.

Developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the HSTDV test was conducted at 11:05 AM on Monday which lasted for five minutes.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took to his twitter handle and congratulated the DRDO for their "landmark achievement".

"I congratulate to DRDO on this landmark achievement towards realizing PM's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. I spoke to the scientists associated with the project and congratulated them on this great achievement. India is proud of them," he tweeted.

With the successful test flight of the HSTDV, India has demonstrated capabilities for highly complex technology that will serve as the building block for next-generation hypersonic vehicles in partnership with the domestic defence industry, said a DRDO official.
