India to deport 23 Rohingya from Assam

The Centre had deported the first seven Rohingya Muslims back to Myanmar after the government ruled that they should be treated as illegal immigrants rather than qualifying for refuge.

Amid a raging political debate over providing shelter to Rohingya Muslims in the country, India again plans to deport 23 more Rohingya from the detention camps of Assam.

The 23 Rohingya immigrants were detained for illegally entering the country, are currently lodged in Goalpara, Silchar and Tezpur detention camps.

As per sources, Nationality verifications of the Rohingyas have already been accomplished by the centre. The documents related issues of the Rohingyas have already been verified by the Myanmarese authorities through the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs, India.
