The novel coronavirus epidemic in India is now the fastest-growing in the world with an increment of 20% over the last week which counted to more than 1.4 million confirmed positive cases, according to the data stated by Bloomberg's Coronavirus Tracker on Tuesday.

India is now behind the U.S. and Brazil in the number of confirmed infections, but its growth in new cases is the fastest, Bloomberg stated.

India being the world's second-most populous country has been increasing COVID-19 testing, with 515, 472 samples taken on Sunday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research. However, Bloomberg's report also claims that India and Brazil have some of the world's lowest testing rates, with 11.8 tests and 11.93 tests per 1,000 people respectively, compared to the U.S. with 152.98 tests per 1,000 and Russia with 184.34, according to Our World in Data, a project-based at the University of Oxford in the U.K.

Meanwhile, the ministry of health and family welfare on Monday reported that the nation has registered over 4.8 lakh active COVID-19 cases so far. However, the recoveries have been higher with over 9 lakh cured cases to date. The ministry added that the Case Fatality Rate is progressively falling and currently, it is 2.28%. India has one of the lowest fatality rates in the world. The death toll has crossed the 33,000 mark.
