Guwahati police on Saturday arrested a former instructor of the Aakash Institute Mantu Barman on charges of sexually abusing a city student.
According to police, Mantu Barman was in a relationship with a student of the same institute. And when the relationship turned sour and girl stopped seeing him, Barman reportedly started to threaten to upload her nude photographs on the social media.
Barman reportedly also made false promises to the girl to help her clear the upcoming medical entrance examinations. The girl hails from Hailakandi and was studying in Guwahati. The girl filed a FIR and a case (No 812/18) has been registered in this regard at the Paltan Bazar Police Station. Barman used to teach at the Bhangagarh centre of the institute.
"An FIR has been lodged against the instructor under Section 354/354 (P) / 354 (C) / 376 of the IPC. We are investigating the matter," said Dharani Burman, OC, Paltan Bazar Police Station.
It was not sure up to what extent accused Mantu Barman had threatened her.
