In a shocking incident, a son allegedly threw his ailing mother into a river in Nagaon, which has sent chills down the spine in the region.
The incident had taken place near Nowgong Girls College on Wednesday night.
The deceased mother – Ratna Devi Agarwal had been residing with her son named Pramod Agarwal as a tenant in Haiborgaon's Marwaripatty.
Agarwal said that his mother has been paralysed for a while now due to which he even had to give up his job.
Unable to bear the expenses, he planned to first kill his mother following which he wanted to commit suicide. But as he was intoxicated the plan could not be successfully executed, added the son.
According to reports, Agarwal took his mother in a battery-operated Rickshaw to throw her into the Kolong River.
The body of the mother has been recovered by NDRF after a search operation conducted on Thursday.
The Nagaon Police has detained the son accused in the incident.
