Several Guwahati Central Jail prisoners infected with coronavirus infection tried to escape the Sonapur COVID-19 care centre.
On Thursday, several prisoners tried escaping the care centre set up in the premises of the Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education. Police personnel had to open fire in a bid to stop the fugitives.
The incident caused a chaotic situation at the care centre. The Commissioner of Police and other senior officials were present to assess and handle the situation.
