Japanese Encephalitis Claims One In Baihata

One Rahimuddin Ahmed of Baihata Chariali who was suffering from Japanese encephalitis died on Sunday.

Japanese encephalitis has spread to every district of the state killing over 50 persons so far.

This has prompted the government to cancel doctors' leaves and step up efforts to combat the disease.

It may be mentioned here that on Saturday, the state health department issued a notification canceling all leaves for doctors, nurses and other health department personnel in the government health sector till September 30.

Assam Health Minister said that leave in emergency cases can only be allowed by the deputy commissioner.

So far, 12.8 lakh blood slides have been collected and jogging operations have been intensified in 1,094 affected villages.
