JE Claims 9 Lives in Assam Till Date

Unlike every year, this year also the cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) are increasing at an alarming rate in Assam and nine lives have been claimed due to JE till June 24 and 39 people are infected with the disease.

In Cachardistrict, three people have been infected with JE out of which it claims lifeof one while in Darrang district also one people died of JE out of three whoare being infected with the disease.

Meanwhile, oneperson each is infected with JE in Dhemaji, Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur and Morigaonwhile the number of infected persons in Dibrugarh is 3, Jorhat (3), Kamrup (R)(7), Kamrup Metro (7), Karimganj (3), Nalbari (2), Sivasagar (3) and Tinsukia(3).

Moreover,the numbers of deaths due to JE are Dibrugarh (2), Kamrup (R) (3), Morigaon (1)and Jorhat (1).

However, itmay be mentioned that the number of deaths due to JE is increasing as in 2017,the death toll was 87 while that in 2018 was 94 as per the data of provided bythe health department of Assam. This year also at the very onset of the season,JE claimed 9 lives in the state.

The cases ofJE, Dengue are more in the city due to the unhealthy environment and due to theusage of plastics and disposable items are more. The mosquito menace is more asthe drains are uncovered and the concerned department does not take anymeasures in order to curb the mosquito menace.
