The outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) continues in Assam. A man has lost his life after being infected by JE at Hulungapar Gossaigaon in Jorhat. The deceased has been identified as Bapa Patra.

Reportedly, the deceased Patra was admitted in Jorhat Medical College and Hospital. He died during his treatment.

JE is vector-borne encephalitis transmitted by Culex groups of mosquitoes. These mosquitoes breed mainly in rice fields and large water bodies rich in aquatic vegetation. Migratory birds along with pigs in the community play an important role in the transmission of JE from one area to another area.
