To contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the community, The District Magistrate of Jorhat has announced total lockdown in areas under the Jorhat Municipal Board with effect from 7 PM of July 9. The lockdown will remain in force till July 15, 2020.
However, the weekend lockdown orders for Saturdays and Sundays that were issued for the municipality and sub-urban areas on June 26 will continue as earlier.
Another order regarding the opening of shops in the municipal areas of Jorhat at a certain fixed time that was issued on July 3 has been withdrawn. Now, under the new order, all shops will remain open from July 7 to July 9.
Among the activities prohibited in the forthcoming lockdown include movement of individuals, functioning of government offices and private offices, functioning of industrial establishments, public transport services, movement of private vehicles, all hospitability services and functioning of all educational institutions.
Among the exceptions include functioning of hospitals and retail medical outlets, limited opening of banks, operation of print and electronic media and operation of vehicles of health, fire and law and order.
