The Kamakhya Temple has secured third position in the Swachh Iconic Place in Phase I under the Swachh Bharat Mission initiative. The award will be presented at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday (September 6).
The Swachh Bharat Mission authorities have selected the Kamakhya temple for its planning and development and cleanliness during the Ambubachi Mela which witnessed more than 20lakhs visitors.
The award was presented based on keeping the premises of some selected iconic places of heritage in the country neat and tidy which is being coordinated by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in association with the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism and the respective state governments.
The Central government added a number of such places in the list of Swachh Iconic places in order to keep the iconic places of heritage in the country clean in three phases.
The iconic cultural places included in Phase I of this initiative are the Kamakhya Temple, Vaishnodevi Temple, Chhattrapati Shivaji Terminus, Taj Mahal, Tirupati Balaji Temple, Golden Temple, Manikarnika Ghat, Ajmer Sharif Dargah, Meenakshi Temple and Jagannath Temple.
The Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu and Kashmir has received the first position in the list of iconic places.
