Karnataka Crisis | SC declines early hearing MLA’s plea

The Supreme Court on Monday morning has refused to hear the plea filed by two Independent MLAs who earlier withdrew their support to the Congress-JD(S) government in Karnataka.

They were seeking court direction to ask the JDS-Congress government to finish the floor test by Monday evening itself.

The court has however refused to hear the matter on anurgent basis and also said that they would not interfere in the matter of thepending floor test in Karnataka assembly.

Floor test in the Karnataka assembly has been scheduled forMonday after missing two earlier deadlines. While the Kumaraswamy government isinsisting on debate and addressing concerns of all MLAs in the House,Opposition BJP has been demanding immediate voting.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said, "Impossible. We have never done this before. Tomorrow we may see it."

According to the plea, their petition in the Supreme Court,Independent MLAs R Shankar and H Nagesh have said that Karnataka has plungedinto a political crisis. The two MLAs withdrew their support to the governmentwhile 16 other lawmakers of the ruling coalition have also tendered theirresignation.
