Kaziranga National Park starts water-bird census exercise

Authorities of Kaziranga National Park (KNP), on Thursday, have started a Water Bird Census in the World Heritage Site. With social figures and staff, the census will be conducted in four lakes under Agaratali, Kohora and Bagori forest ranges of the park.

According to the forest officials, 15 groups have been formed to conduct the census. Apart from authorities of KNP, the groups include members of JDSG College, World Nature Forum (WNF), Aranyak, Wild Life Staff of India and Corbett Foundation.

Interestingly, for the first time since its foundation in 1908, a water-bird census has initiated in these forest ranges of the KNP. The census awaits the result of the water-bird population as its estimation would be an important factor for the National Park.
