Kokrajhar Sisters Murder Case: Seven Arrested

In a major breakthrough in the rape and murder of the Kokrajhar sisters' case, seven accused have been apprehended by Assam Police on Tuesday evening.

Of the seven, three have been identified as prime accused.

The accused have been booked under the POSCO Act and various other sections of the IPC.

Besides police, a Special Investigation Team was constituted to investigate the matter.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter and shared the update as well and revealed the identities of the prime accused.

"Muzammil Sheikh, Nazibul Sheikh and Farouk Rahman arrested for rape and murder of 2 tribal minor girls in Kokrajhar dist.The heinous crime was allegedly committed with the girls first choked to death & their bodies hanged in a tree to hoodwink @assampolice did a commendable job," Dr. Sarma tweeted.

Moreover, five persons were arrested on Sunday too.

The arrestees have been identified as Jahanur Islam, Mozamel Sheikh, Ataf Ali, Hanif Sheikh and Sankardev Barman.

The Chief Minister also visited the family of the deceased and instructed authorities to unearth the cause of their death at the earliest.

CM Sarma reiterated that he came over to send across a message that the government will not tolerate any kind of atrocities against the poor and downtrodden.

Both the sisters were found dead under mysterious circumstances on the night of June 11 inside a forest in Abhayaukti village. They went missing on Friday afternoon.
