Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee Takes Out Anti-NRC Rally

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday has taken out a protest march in Kolkata against the list of National Register of Citizens (NRC).

It may be mentioned that over 19 lakh applicants failed to makeit to the final NRC list, staring at an uncertain future. A total of3,30,27,661 people had applied to be included in the NRC out of which3,11,21,004 have been included in the document and 19, 06,657 names wereexcluded from the final NRC.

Banerjee, who called the updated list a fiasco earlier, saidthat her heart goes out to all those, especially the large number of Bengalispeaking brothers and sisters, who are made to suffer because of thisbotched-up process.

Union Minister Smriti Irani had hit out the Bengal CM on Tuesdayas she had opposed the NRC, saying that the BJP-led government at the Centre iscommitted to protecting the rights of each and every citizen of the country. Theillegal infiltrators will be dealt with as per law, Irani said.

Talking about NRC, Irani said that No Indian would be left out saying that they are dedicated towards protecting the rights of the citizens of the country.

Criticizing Banerjee for her opposition to NRC, Irani said thatit proves the dichotomy on her stand on illegal immigrants. The Chief Minister'sopposition to policies of the central government is well known to the people.
