Leaders appeal to people to vote

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah, several Union ministers on Thursday urged over 14.21 crore voters to come out in huge numbers and cast their votes in the first phase of Lok Sabha election being conducted today.

BJP President Amit Shah urged people to vote saying " Your one vote will decide the future of this great nation". And added, "The power of democracy lies in your single vote, your one vote will decide the future of this great nation."

Shah issued similar appeals, in different languages, to people in various states going to the polls on Thursday in the first of the seven-phased election to pick a new Lok Sabha.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to appeal voters, especially the young first-time voters, to come out in large numbers and exercise their constitutional rights. Taking to Twitter, Modi laid special emphasis on first-time voters and asked them to exercise their franchise in large numbers.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi posted a tweet urging voters to "vote wisely for the soul of India and its future". The Congress also tweeted an appeal to voters. "Today you decide. Love over hate. Jobs over pakoda. Policies over propaganda. One nation over division. Vote for Congress. Vote for you. Today you pledge," posted the party."

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday also said "Voting is necessary and a sacred responsibility of all. Vote for national security, development and identity."
