Two time world cup winner former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Saturday announced his retirement from international cricket bringing an end to one of the finest eras in Indian cricket. "Thanks. Thanks for ur love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me retired," said Dhoni in a post on instagram.

Born and brought up in Ranchi, MS Dhoni has been one of country's most impactful cricketers with 17266 runs across all formats for India. He made his ODI debut against Bangladesh under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly in 2004.

His career is studded with several milestones. Some of them are –

2. He has the most wins in T20s as a skipper.

3. Dhoni's 183 not out against Sri Lanka in 2005 is the highest score by a wicketkeeper.

4. He is the first Indian and fifth overall to hit 200 sixes in ODIs.

5. Dhoni is the most successful Indian Test captain with 27 Test wins, surpassing Sourav Ganguly's record of 21. Under Dhoni's captaincy, India topped the Test cricket rankings for the first time, in 2009.

6. Dhoni holds the record for playing the most matches in ODI history as captain who also served as a wicket-keeper.

7. Fourth Indian to reach 10,000 runs after Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid and also the second wicket-keeper to reach the milestone.
